Orb's data exports feature now supports invoice billings broken down by line item through the Invoice Line Item Billing resource. This information can be used to power use cases like: calculating precise discount amounts and breaking down billed amounts by price.

For customers with data exports included in your plan, this resource will automatically be included in the list of resources exported to your data destination.

This resource is a powerful way to understand and track the individual line item values for invoices that have been billed. As opposed to the Daily Line Item Revenue resource, this resource avoids the need to filter to line items for invoices that have yet to be billed and aggregates line item amounts into a single value instead of one value per day.

Over the last two weeks, we made significant performance improvements to the Orb dashboard. In particular, the customer list, the customer detail page, and the invoice list should now load faster. You can expect additional performance improvements in the weeks and months to come.

Metadata is a key-value object that lets you store customizable information on Orb core resources. In addition to Customer, Subscription, and Plan, you can now update metadata on the Price and Invoice objects through two newly-released endpoints. Learn more about them here:

Orb has now released the ability to schedule start of term migrations! This option takes advantage of the fact that Orb knows the billing period of each price across all your individual subscriptions and will schedule the migration for each subscription at the start of the subscription's term.

This allows you to make pricing changes in the middle of a billing period without disrupting your normal invoicing cadence, allowing you to decouple feature rollouts and pricing changes in Orb. For example, if you bill your customers monthly and want to roll out a new feature mid-month , you can simply turn on the feature for your customers and start reporting usage, and then schedule a beginning of term migration to a new plan version, and Orb will ensure that each customer's end of month invoice includes all of the usage for the whole month.

Orb now offers recognized revenue, billings, deferred revenue, and unbilled revenue reports in the web application. With daily granularity into your revenue, you gain visibility into the essential financial metrics that allow you to make informed decisions and streamline your accounting processes.

Orb now allows adding and editing individual adjustments (discounts, minimums, and maximums) on a subscription. You can programmatically model adjustments to your pricing while maintaining total control over billing and invoicing; this can be used to allow customers to redeem coupons on a subscription or to allow your support team to easily give discounts as needed. Adjustments can be backdated into the past or scheduled for the future, and Orb will always correct your customer's invoices to ensure correct billing. Adjustment intervals can be modified using our price intervals API — see the docs here.

The Orb event page has been updated to allow users to access events sent to Orb within the past 90 days. 

Events on the page can be filtered using the new updated timepicker or by filtering event properties using the Event filter button. More advanced filtering is available through SQL.

Clicking on Download .CSV will apply the current filters and download all events to a CSV file.

Orb now supports returning precomputed responses on the subscription costs, customer costs, and subscription usage endpoints as an opt-in feature through the `Orb-Cache-Control` header.

By default, these endpoints will query the latest events for the resource and execute a live query. For large time ranges, event sets, or many metrics, this can take a few seconds. However, Orb also periodically recomputes usage totals for each customer asynchronously as events are ingested and can now directly serve this data if requested without performing the live query.

Note that cached data is not guaranteed to be entirely fresh, and is meant to serve use cases like an initial load where performance on the critical path is important. In the response, Orb returns a timestamp, which represents the latest time the results are guaranteed to capture. This timestamp can be used to display the freshness to the user, or for your system to decide whether re-querying the endpoint for the latest data is required.

Orb now supports configuring alerts programmatically through our API, enhancing your ability to monitor customer spending and usage with greater control and flexibility at scale. 

Alerts trigger webhooks when credit balances, costs, or usage thresholds are exceeded for customers or subscriptions. These alerts can be used to notify internal teams of anomalous activity, power an overage notification workflow to customers, or prevent excessive use of a product feature.
